Band Aid

この歌をカラオケで歌う季節になりました。

エチオピアの飢餓を救うべく立ち上がったUKのチャリティバンド。
Bob GeldofとMidge Ureの呼びかけに賛同したのは当時の
スーパースターたち。PVの贅沢な顔触れに興奮します。

このあと、USではWe are the worldを同じくスター軍団を揃えて
同じコンセプトでリリース。USA for Africaという軍団名、USAはアメリカかと
思っていましたが、 United Support of Artistsの略だったそうで。

この2曲は有名ですが、当時その影で頑張っていたのが、UB40が中心となって
Madnessなどレゲエ・スカ系バンドで結成、リリースした「Starvation」。
残念ながら爆発的なヒットにはなりませんでしが、よおく覚えてます。

いずれにせよ、この一大ムーブメントはその後のBonoやGates夫妻の活動、
モッタイナイEarth系にも継承されるのでした。
